Caption Writing for Social Media.

Wondering how to stop a serial scroller in their tracks? It all starts with a caption. Sure, a good image will entice someone to look at your post…but a compelling caption will make them stay. You need an irresistible caption that they can’t help but read. “But isn’t it all about the image?” Hmm, nope! A click-worthy caption can do wonders for your brand, and your bottom line. We’re here to teach you the ins and outs of caption writing for Instagram.

Add value

We’ve said it once and we’ll say it again - you want to add value to your audience. You want to give them something. Knowledge, content and resources all count as value. (source) Use your knowledge to your advantage, by sharing that knowledge with your audience. Simply, give your audience something useful, with no strings attached. By giving your audience valuable content - you show them you’re a source that they can trust.

Keep it concise

Clear and concise is always nice, period. Remove the fluff and remove the waffle. A super lengthy caption? Ah, yawn. 🥱 People don’t want to read a caption that goes on forever.

Fewer words = bigger impact. Trust us.

Write like a human

Not like a robot. People want to read something that's come from a person. A person with knowledge, someone with experience, someone who’s lived. So write like the human that you are! Write with heart, write to build human connection, write to inspire. You don’t need to worry about sounding too casual or too professional – just do your best to sound like you.

Tell a story

Did you know the longer someone spends reading your caption, the better your post will rank and perform in the algorithm? This doesn’t mean you should write a caption that’s 1000 words long, we don’t recommend that. But write enough to make your audience stop for a second and go. “Wow! I enjoy what they’re saying” or “That post really moved me.” Aim to tell a story that impacts your audience and makes them tick, in all the right ways.

Use emojis

What is a caption without an obnoxious amount of emojis, seriously?! 🤷‍♀️ Emojis are fun and playful, and they’re also great a great way to add clarity to your content. You can use an emoji to clarify a point or make it stand out. 💥 Or, you can use an emoji as a play on words. We love emojis here at Daily Digital, as does our audience. Yours will too. 🧡

Read it out loud

If in doubt, read it out loud. Sometimes the easiest way to tell if something is written correctly, or sounds right is simply by repeating it out loud. Sometimes you just can’t see it, and reading aloud helps clarify how you should be saying things.
