When Is The Best Time To Post On Instagram In 2022?

There’s a bit of a grey area around social posting, what days of the week are best and at which times will give get the most engagement, but is there a blanket time that suits everyone? 🤔 We’re here to give you the rundown on finding the most ideal posting time for you and your business. 👇

Experiment with posting times

It’s experimentation time, baby.

Yip - the best piece of advice is to experiment with posting times. By alternating and trailing different posting times and tracking which times generate the most engagement - you’ll be able to measure what works best for your audience.

Or test suggested times by Meta Business Suite. Use the suggestions made by the big guys, because they know what they’re talking ‘bowt. If you schedule in bulk through Meta Business Suite, suggestions will pop up for you, try them - see if it works for you.

Use yourself or your friends as an example

This is a good way to choose the times that you want to trial. I know we hate to admit just how much time we spend glued to our iPhones, but for a lot of us the reality is that we..wake up 👉 check our phone, morning tea break 👉 phone, lunch break 👉 phone. You get the gist.  🤷‍♀️

Think about the times that you're most likely to be scrolling on your phone and schedule those times.

Research shows that Aussie spends 5.5 hours per day on their phone, which equates to almost 17 years! (Dixon, 2021). So rest assured, there are plenty of hours to reach your audience.

What do the experts think?

Adam Mosseri Head of Instagram says “There is not one optimal time to post” but recommends looking at your insights to see when your audience is most active, and posting before that peak. This is so that when they do come online, your post is sitting on the feed ready and waiting for them. Mosseri says this is personally what he does and recommends posting in the morning instead of at night.

Why not post at night?

Well, if you think about it - say you post something at 8 pm, people are likely to view it between 8-11 pm on a weeknight, but after that…they’ll most likely head to bed and get off their phones.

Then you have 8 hours where people are sleeping, and people overseas are posting, so in the morning when your audience wakes up, your post has been pushed far down the feed and is nowhere to be seen. 🫣

Whereas, if you post in the morning, your post has allll day to gain attention. 😍

Our advice?

  • Know where your target audience is located - for example, if you are based in NZ but you’re wanting your Australian audience to view the posts first thing in the morning, alter the time to suit.

  • Post before peak times - posting before the peak gives you a day to build engagement on your post.

  • There is no perfect time

Allow yourself to experiment, hey; you may have posts that flop and that’s A-OK. It’s all about trial and error and finding what works best for you. 🧡
